Do outer planets have an effect on us? -- Planets - A new series.

Hello dear readers, here i begin with a new series, that is, the Planets.

Planets a greek origin word that translates into 'the wanderers' because in the sky they seemed to be moving (wandering ) forward and backward (when retro) against the fixed background of stars, constellations and zodiac signs. Here in this new series we will read about the true nature of all planets in the zodiac circle, and their true meaning. I would like to share what the energies of those planets reveal and their correlation with a lot of other energies. It would be a very interesting journey, even if you already know a lot about these 'Planets'. If you are a first time learner, you are in for a deep and adventurous journey about the hidden secrets of nature. And i am sure the background we have on the 7 cosmic laws (5 written so far) will help you a lot in deriving meaning about a lot of things we share and discuss further. The 1st Planet in our series, will be the one that is the farthest and the most distant of them all, Pluto.

Many are of the opinion that Vedic astrology is only using 7 planets upto Saturn + the 2 Virtual Entities (also called shadow planets or 'chhaya grahas') named Rahu & Ketu (North node & south node) totalling upto 9 planets and there is no need to see outer planets like Uranus, Neptune & Pluto.

They believe that since the outer planets are not mentioned in the classical text books they must have 'no effect' on us. Some also give the argument that they are so far apart their affect is minimal. Other arguments include saying that Uranus is actually Rahu and Neptune is Ketu and Pluto is not needed or not a planet at all. I disagree with these arguments owing to multiple reasons. To counter the 1st point, these planets are in fact mentioned in Vedic literature. Uranus was called Prajapati or Harshal in Vedic literature. In addition, Sage Ved Vyas mentioned about Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in the Epic of Mahabharat as Shweta, Shyama and Teekshana. Imagine how much weightage these planets must be having if they are a part of one of the greatest wards / transformations in Vedic literature.

To counter the 2nd argument about distance, also makes no reasonable sense, since Planets like Saturn and Jupiter are also not some near by celestial objects. There is no arbitrary distance, of say X kilometers after which the planets will have 'no effect.' If Uranus is far, then so is Jupiter and Saturn. And if we consider the 5th law to be true, we can make an understanding that somehow, we are all connected and some component of all these planets and Nakshtras is connected to us humans as well, irrespective of the physical distance 'within this universe'. So there is no reason to single out Uranus and the celestial entities beyond it. Furthermore, the zodiacs signs and Nakshtras are even farther away, so distance argument does not make much solid reasoning at all.

And lastly, calling Uranus as 'Rahu' or Neptune as 'Ketu' is not an accurate statement. Although, when you learn about these planets in subsequent chapters, you may see many similarities, in their energies, but as you read you will also know why they are not the same. We will cover this in subsequent chapters when we study these planets specifically.

''As above, So below."

Anyhow, case and point is that there are no solid ground to reject these celestial bodies or avoid considering them while trying to understand a chart and make predictions.

In addition, My view is that more data can lead to more insights and a better understanding of the chart as a whole. It can also lead to more accurate predictions. It is not like those who don't see other celestial bodies will make wrong predictions or inaccurate predictions. Just like say for example if you see a chart and you can see the position of all 'vedic' planets from Sun to Jupiter but not Saturn. You won't make wrong predictions. It would just be that you can make even better predictions or tell a lot more if you also knew where is Saturn. It is an Additive effect. Similarly we can extend this concept to beyond the outer planets as well. Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and then we can also add some big celestial bodies like the Asteroid 'Ceres' into it. Western entities like 'Lilith' or Vedic entities like 'Gullika' and 'Pranapada' also can be added to the picture. Considering more entities just give you new and more insights into the chart that you use to help you have a better and deeper understanding, come to better conclusions and make better predictions.

Hence, Adding these entities into your chart and your calculations is always a welcome move in my view.

Now one can argue that , then why not add all the entities in the Solar system. All the millions of asteroids and 100s of Moons and many other comets and stones, revolving around the sun in our calculations. Well i am not against that, you can, but there are 2 main limitations to that.

1st, You need to understand the energies, meanings and co-relations of all those 'Sequences' and 'Systems' in the Astrological context.

And 2ndly, there is a law of uncertainty or an upper limit to what you can see and predict 'within this universe'. As you keep on adding more and more data and inputs into the system, after a certain level, the accuracy level Plateaus. It stops rising and becomes steady.

Reason for this plateau, in is If you have read the 1st law, you must have seen this image below. As we go deeper and keep adding more and more 'sequences' to observe in 'Divisional charts', as you can see the number of sequences to be 'analysed' multiplies exponentially. Each observation has it's own minor effect and it has to be considered or added while deciphering the chart and coming to a conclusion. But as we 'go below' the number of sequences is so huge that it becomes both humanly impossible to analyse them all and also, they stop making a clear cut pattern or direction and usually start looking like a random pattern of uncertainty and unpredictability. Same thing happens on the macro scale if we start to add more than a good number of celestial bodies as inputs or data points in our calculations. The haziness or uncertainty of their combined effect becomes so high that it stops adding more value or 'direction' to the predictions.

Note that last 2 paragraphs on why if we keep on adding more and more celestial bodies into our analysis won't help is my personal understanding. My research and experience so far agrees with this result, but if you can find out something new, after your research, it would be great.

Hence, all these celestial bodies have their own unique and meaningful effect on the birth chart and we should be open to including them into our analysis of a birth chart.

Note that i would never assert that if an astrologer has not seen the outer planets or other celestial bodies than their predictions are inaccurate or incomplete or that they are less capable than those who do. Astrology is both an Art as well as a Science. And it comes with 3 things, Knowledge, Intuition and experience. I have seen astrologers with such a strong gift of intuition that they can beat others with better knowledge or experience just with their "gift". So never compare Astrologers just based on this criterion. Be respectful. Everyone has their own way. It is a gift that polishes as we study, practice and serve the society.

So, that was the introduction to the new series with a superficial overview of why the outer planets matter. At least as per my knowledge and experience.

In upcoming posts we will write about all these 'celestial bodies' one by one and take a deeper dive into what they really mean and represent. This will include a lot of practically useful info about all these celestial bodies.

I hope you will find the content i share in these upcoming articles helpful and you will keep us the needed feedback as you have always . I will try my best, See you next time with Pluto,

Until then,

Yours truly,

Dr. Rohit Sharma
